I am a big fan of the identification charts and posters of Adolphe Millot. This is my latest collection of his, which includes the fruit and vegetable prints.
Adolphe Philippe Millot was a French naturalist and artist who illustrated many of the natural history sections of the Larousse collection of Illustrated Dictionaries. He was also the senior illustrator at Muséum national d’histoire naturelle in Paris.
Adolphe Millot was famous for his wonderful natural history charts providing images to scientists’ texts and explanations of animals and plant illustrations.
I have featured the antique botanical posters of Adolphe Millot which just focused on his floral and fungi charts. This collection focuses just on his vintage fruit and vegetable prints. All these Adolphe Millot posters are in the public domain so you are free to use them as you wish.
To download the vintage fruit and vegetable print that you want simply click on the title above that posters. A larger image will open as a new tab in your browser.
If you then right-click with your mouse on that vegetable poster you will have the menu option to save the image to your hard drive.
Adolphe Millot Vintage Fruit Posters
1. Vintage Fruit Poster 1.
This first vintage fruit identification poster of Adolphe Millot features 71 different labeled fruits from almonds to grapes. There is a key at the bottom of the poster.
All the fruits in the poster appear to be common European fruits and include many varieties of pears and grapes.
The print first appeared in Nouveau Larousse illustré first published in France in 1897.
There is also a wonderful collection of antique watercolor fruit prints on Pictureboxblue.
2. Vintage Fruit Print 2
A second fruit poster from Nouveau Larousse illustré first published in France in 1897.
There is a greater variety of fruits in this vintage poster of Adolphe Millot. Interestingly the poster includes aubergines, (eggplants), tomatoes, and peppers which are often mistaken for vegetables.
There are more tropical fruits on this poster such as mangos, bananas, pineapples, and my favorite mangosteen.
There are some wonderful vintage pineapple drawings on Pictureboxblue.
3. Vintage Fruit Print 3
This vintage Adolphe Millot fruit poster appeared in Le Larousse pour tous, a more condensed version of the Larousse French illustrated dictionary.
With this chart, the names of each fruit are printed next to the fruit rather than in a key at the bottom. It is also an abridged version of the first two fruit posters.
4. Vintage Vegetable Print 1
The title of this vegetable print “Legumes et plantes potageres” translates as “vegetables and vegetable plants“.
5. Vintage Vegetable Print 2
Interestingly, aubergines, tomatoes and peppers are on this vintage vegetable print of Adolphe Millot as well as the fruit poster above.
6. Black and White Vegitable Poster
There are some wonderful individual vintage vegetable prints here and in Mrs Beeton’s cookbook.
Charlotte M. Yonge also painted some wonderful vintage fruit and vegetable illustrations.
Don’t forget to check out some of the other wonderful Adolphe Millot posters on Pictureboxblue. These include his beautiful sealife posters and vintage animal posters.
Also, if you like the natural history illustrations of Adolphe Millot then you are bound to love the nature artform illustrations of Ernst Haeckel.

Hi Bridget, can you specify what Cavallini artwork you mean? Cavallini is a publishing business that republishes vintage images like the ones here as gift wrap, cards etc. I can't only use the original images, not the Cavallini ones, as they have edited them. But if you let me know what you want, I can see if I can find the original.
