Print 1. Anna Munthe Norstedt Still Life Peony
This is a gorgeous still-life painting of a single Peony by Anna Munthe Norstedt. Anna was a Swedish painter known for her still life in oils.
2. Yun Shouping – 17th Century Peony
This is a 17th-century ink painting of a Peony by the Chinese Artist Yun Shouping. I love all the Chinese calligraphy on the edge of the painting.
More Peonies from the 17th Century Chinese painting Yon Shouping. This time there are three beautiful peonies in 3 different colours red, purple and white.
4. Giuseppe Castiglione Peonies in Vase
Another painting from China. This time an 18th Century painting of peonies in ink on silk by Giuseppe Castiglione. Giuseppe was an Italian Jesuit that served as a painter in the court of three Chinese Emperors.
5. Two Purple Peonies – Shibata Zeshin
This is a Japanese woodblock print by Shibata Zeshin from the 1880s. Shibata was a 19th- Century Japanese lacquer, painter and printmaker.
6. Variegated Peony – Shibata Zeshin
Another woodblock Peony print by Shibata Zeshin from the 1880s. This time the peonies are variegated pink and red.
This lovely tree peony botanical illustration was by the French botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redoute in 1801.
This is a lovely tree peony painted by the Dutch botanical artist Abraham Jacobus Wendel in 1868.
This gorgeous red peony painting is from Curtis’s Botanical Magazine 1918.
I used this peony for my decoupage bauble decorations.

In China, the peony is considered the Queen of Flowers, representing the late spring season. The shrubs of this tree peony are in full bloom, blossoming in various colors. Peony paintings were popular from the Southern Song period to the Ming dynasty. The large scale of this decorative scroll suggests that it may have been hung in a reception hall, conveying good wishes for wealth and prosperity.
